When we think about the moments in our lives that stand out to us, those particular instances where we pause our busy minds and relish in a moment of joy, we are instantly filled with a sense of happiness. There is a particular beauty to the simple act of detaching from the world and its stresses and allowing joy to enter our hearts. What I find interesting is that to every person there are different situations that spark that feeling. Today I want to talk about the concept of “kindness” and how being kind can not only help you to detach from everything around you, but the importance of radiating kindness to other people and how it can raise the overall energy and create a better environment in any situation.
I want you all to imagine watching one of those viral videos that we all love so much – where an animal helps another, or a young child shares their food with a friend. Kindness is part of human nature. It lives within each of our hearts and it makes us feel good not only to receive acts of kindness, but also to give them. When we analyze our relationship to our lives and the hustle and bustle of our schedules we realize that often times we don’t make time for kindness. Too often we allow our responsibilities to control our ability to take a moment and help someone in our path, or feed someone in need.
The beauty of actually taking the time to be kind, however, is two fold. One, it allows you to detach from your life for a moment and remember your humanity. It brings out the best in you, and makes you realize that there is an importance in being able to bring joy to other people. Secondly, it empowers the person to whom you are showing kindness and makes them feel as though they have been noticed and cared for. It is in those moments where real relationships are built. Whether with family, friends, romantic relationships, or professional connections, being kind shows other people that you are invested in their well being and their happiness as well.
It doesn’t take a lot to be kind, or to show kindness, but that small deed can go a long way in changing somebody’s mood. If you can make somebody’s day better every day, you will have an incredibly lasting impression on those who come into your life.
Grow through kindness and remember your humanity first – always.
